WhizSpark in Newsweek

by Sooz on July 12, 2005

WhizSpark, that company whose event website tools I use, is in a Newsweek article about Evite alternatives. Hopefully these sorts of press mentions will help inspire people to understand that yes, WhizSpark rocks and is immensely useful. [via pc4media]

For the high-rolling host, whizspark.com offers a customized “events platform”—invitations, newsletters and even a ticketing service—for a flat fee of $150. Great, but not necessarily right for that casual barbecue.

Game Night at True Grounds on July 20

by Sooz on July 11, 2005

I’ve organized a game night at True Grounds, my neighorhood coffee shop/cafe at 717 Broadway in Ball Square/Somerville. It’s happening on Wednesday, July 20th 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM. They usually close at 7PM but are staying open late for this event. If it is well attended it may happen on a regular basis. A variety of board and card games will be available and everyone is encouraged to bring their own, too. The tables at True Grounds accomodate 2-4 people. There will be free snacks and drinks during the first half hour. RSVP at the event website to enter a drawing for prizes. Good times!

Flickr Photos and RSS

by Sooz on July 10, 2005

If you want to receive an alert via RSS when I add new photos to my flickr account, please add my flickr RSS feed to your reader. I’ve turned off the photo splicer on my Feedburner feed until they add an option for a daily flickr update. I’m taking too many photos to bother you with an RSS update each and every time I take a photo unless you really want those alerts. If that’s the case, subscribe to my RSS feed at flickr.

London

I have nothing deep or insightful to add about the situation in London. It is sad, indeed. Project Nothing has a very extensive list of online coverage.

Dinner Thursday with BOOKMARK NOW Editor Kevin Smokler in Harvard Square

by Sooz on July 5, 2005

The new book that Kevin Smokler edited seems to be doing well. According to a tidbit on the book’s website, it was featured in the Los Angeles Times Book Review where they had this to say:

“If you’re a writer, Bookmark is pure inspirational power juice. If you’re a reader (we know you’re out there), it provides lots of heartening evidence that literature isn’t dead, and that novelists can be just as entertaining as Dave Chappelle.”

Kevin will be in town this coming Thursday, July 7th to talk about and read from BOOKMARK NOW at the Harvard Book Store at 6:30 PM. I’m hosting a dinner for him afterwards at 8:15 PM at nearby Smile Thai Cafe. If you can join us, send me an email or RSVP on the event website. Good food and good conversation. Why not show up?

New Layout

by Sooz on July 2, 2005

I was poking around a bunch of WordPress themes last night and re-stumbled into Chyetanya Kunte’splain vanilla” theme. I bookmarked it several weeks ago but never had a chance to do anything with it until a late night tinkering session last night. I’m also using Dan Benjamin’s image rotator script as described at A List Apart back in August of last year. If you refresh any of the pages you’ll see a different image towards the top. That is if you view my site directly beyond your newsreader.

Sleep. Work. Apartment Search. NYC Visitors. That’s the theme of the day. Hopefully in that order. I’m behind on a lot of work and hope to catch up on a bunch of things this weekend.
