MarksGuide to the professional networking scene in Boston

by Sooz on September 11, 2006

Mark Christian was at on Saturday and told me about his new weblog called MarksGuide. There are lots (and lots) of networking events in Boston. Mark attends at least a couple events a week and he’s started to share info about these events at MarksGuide. While we were talking about Podcamp, we remembered that we’re both from the Midwest (Ohio for him and Nebraska for me) and how that might impact our approach to networking. Mark and I do not subscribe to the drive-by networking approach that we both see a lot of in Boston!

MarksGuideâ„¢ focuses on topics related to the professional networking scene in Boston, Massachusetts. We offer news and reviews of events, organizations and networking groups as well as other interesting topics related to professional networking. Our goal is to provide people with the information they need to discover and build beneficial professional relationships.

The Flickr Photo Map Love Continues

by Sooz on September 10, 2006

Flickr photo map filter for Exploit Boston event photo group

Flickr’s new photo map is amazing. The thing that would have made it more useful for event photos on Exploit Boston’s event photo group map is the ability to sort by date. And hey, guess what, they added that feature and you can do that now. The filter option at the bottom of the map page lets you zoom into a group’s photos by person (contributor) and date. They don’t include a link to the map at the top of the group’s pages (like they do on a individual photo area) so you need to type /map at the end of the group’s URL such as . Now more people just need to plop their Boston event photos on the map so the search results include more of the 806 photos in the group.

Joanne Colan, Rocketboom

I decided to leave my digital camera at home during Podcamp and just snap a few photos with my Sidekick cameraphone. This is a photo I took of the very gracious (from Rocketboom) at Podcamp’s Saturday night party at The Grand Canal. The nose belongs to .

The rest of my are on Flickr.

Complimentary wi-fi at Richmond airport but not in Boston?

by Sooz on September 7, 2006

I’ve been in Richmond, VA for a couple days for work-related training. Since there isn’t complimentary-wifi-for-all at Logan in Boston I didn’t expect it at the small Richmond aiport. I’m a couple hours early for my flight and there’s not much to do here at the airport. But guess what? Complimentary wi-fi! It is ridiculous that Comcast (who operates the wi-fi at Logan) won’t give customers complimentary access despite all the money they get from us every month for cable services. Though Logan really should just give everyone access to begin with.

del.icio.us vs. ma.gnolia.com

by Sooz on September 4, 2006

I switched from del.icio.us to ma.gnolia.com but after a few months, I’m just not using ma.gnolia.com as much as I was using del.icio.us. I just noticed that del.icio.us has some nifty stuff since I last used it including networks and private bookmarks.

Boston Event Photo Map

by Sooz on September 3, 2006

Flickr continues it’s awesomeness. Their latest thing is making it easy to geotag photos so the photo can be noted on a map. I was amused when Michael found the map location for “Lone Tree” near where I lived in Scribner, Nebraska. It’s a big, old tree that sits at the intersection of three country roads.

The map for Boston event photos via the Exploit Boston group is interesting. Not many people have plopped their photos on the map; but once they do, the group’s map is going to be a cool view of where events happen and their respective photos. If you take event photos around greater Boston, you should join us.
