The New Job Adventure at BostonNOW

This bit of awesomeness has been percolating for a few days and I’m glad I can finally talk about it here. I accepted a job at BostonNOW helping manage the interactive media/web operations at the new free daily newspaper in Boston. Regina O’Brien who got things going to set up BostonNOW’s website and community blogs is moving on to a new opportunity in her math-career world.
Looking forward to talking about the new job more in the coming weeks!

Tourfilter DJ Night #3 at River Gods on May 17th
I’ve blathered on and on about Tourfilter so you should already know how much I adore Chris Marstall’s Tourfilter website. Last month he started up a DJ night at River Gods near Central Square featuring bands that are coming to town whose schedules you can also track on Tourfilter. I’ll be joining in the fun on Thursday, May 17th as the DJ for the late hour(s) slot of 11:40PM-1AM. Brad Searles and Chris will be DJing earlier that night. It all starts at 9PM.
If you feel inspired to stay up late on a “school night” come out and join us! I’ll be playing music from Boston area bands with upcoming shows that you can hear on Exploit Boston Radio.
River Gods is located at 125 River St in Cambridge. It’s a short walk from Central Square (MBTA Red Line).

24 Hours of Flickr
Amidst Friday evening’s excitement of “I’m going to pack super deluxe ultra light and only take one bag with me on the JetBlue flight to NYC” — I forgot to bring my camera with me to participate in the 24 Hours of Flickr adventure on Saturday. Looks like lots of other people contributed a bunch of photos, though.

BostonNOW Opens Up Their Community Blogging Project
Pretty much what the title says — you can now set up a blog at BostonNOW to contribute to the new free daily newspaper in Boston. They’ll be reviewing and incorporating blog entries into the print paper. I think it would be great if you could automatically cross-post a specific category from your regular blog (like my WordPress-powered blog here at sooz.com) over to my BostonNOW blog. Maybe there’s a WordPress plugin for that so everything I tag/categorize as “BostonNOW” would automatically cross-post over there? I suppose ye olde copy and paste is OK, too.
Speaking of blogs at BostonNOW, if you have the print edition, check out page 17 for an excerpt from Michael’s review of the movie On Broadway. The PDF version of today’s paper isn’t online just yet but when it is, you can find his review there, too.

The Boston Herald Tries to Write About Twitter
I was ready to write a cranky entry about Margery Eagan’s story in today’s Boston Herald about Twitter and just read what Steve Garfield wrote . Apparently I’m not the only one perplexed by Margery.
Margery writes:
“Forget having to go over for supper and feign interest in the 98-page Baby is Born scrapbook. Now we’ll get the scrapbook updates constantly. In real time. Whether we want them or not.”
Steve writes:
Actually, if you had taken the time to learn how twitter works you’d know that you need to ADD someone to receive their updates.
I understand that as a writer, you can’t be an expert about everything you write about. But even just taking a couple of minutes to understand what you’re writing about can really go a long way. Setting up a twitter account is free.
Of course, what do I know? I’m just blathering away over on Twitter. ;)

Exploit Boston Game Night Tonight at Soul Fire on May 1st
It’s been almost two years since Michael and I started up Exploit Boston Game Night. We’ll have to do something extra fun for the June event — lots of good giveaways, perhaps!
Tonight is the May 1st 2007 edition of the event. We’re at Soul Fire in Allston the first Tuesday of every month, 7-11pm and free admission. We provide lots (and I do mean lots) of board games.
