As an update to my entry the other day about organizing an Event Group Blogging outing for OLLY'S PRISON in Harvard Square, I've got tickets for tomorrow night's performance at 7:30 PM at the Zero Arrow Theater. It's a bit last minute notice but I wanted to squeeze this in before Michael and I left on our road trip this weekend. If you're a blogger and you'd like to join us tomorrow night, let me know. I have four tickets (out of six) currently available.

Bowling Posse on Thursday, 3 March at Sacco's Bowl Haven

@ 02:27 PM | Filed Under: Events (t), Projects (t), You're Invited (t) | Comments (0) | Cosmos

While growing up in Nebraska, I participated in a youth bowling league at Hilltop Lanes in Dodge, Nebraska. It's unfortunate that I no longer have the patches from my various winnings. I haven't gone tenpin bowling in over a decade and I'd probably not be all that good at it these days. Fortunately, New England has candle pin bowling which is a lot easier. Partly because the balls are not as heavy and you get three turns instead of two.

The next bowling posse outing is on Thursday, March 3rd at Sacco's Bowl Haven in Davis Square at 8:00 PM. If you'd like to join us, you can RSVP at the Bowling Posse event page at WhizSpark. The cost is $10 and that covers two hours of bowling and the shoe rental.

I'm starting to dabble more with WhizSpark's hosted DIY event planning tools -- in particular the ad-free, customizable tools that are under development. Overall, I like what I see. Hopefully the ability to adjust the layout (perhaps similar to how TypePad lets you move content around on the page) and link colors (I had no choice but to use the red links if I wanted a black background) will be a possibility someday. Peter Caputa, the president of WhizSpark, has been generally responsive to my ideas, feedback, nagging and criticisms.

I'm in the process of moving several hundred sooz.com event newsletter subscribers over to WhizSpark. It will be interesting to see what sort of feedback I receive once I start to send out event invites through the WhizSpark system. One thing that is new is that if someone wants to register/reply/RSVP for an event, the person first needs to create a free account. WhizSpark has an anti-spam policy as far as how users can and cannot use data in the system; but the policy does not address how WhizSpark itself will not use contact information in their system. Hopefully that's something they can directly address in their policy soon.

Sharing Another Birthday With A Bush Inauguration

@ 07:52 PM | Filed Under: Boston Bands (t), Events (t), You're Invited (t) | Comments (0) | Cosmos

As I've mentioned before, on Thursday I share my 32nd birthday with another Bush inauguration. Hopefully, this will be the last time I share it with a member of that family. If you're in the area, friends and conspirators will be getting together for food and drinks at ZuZu at 9:30 PM that night and then a new favorite band, Tom Thumb, plays a free show at 11:00 PM. They've got a couple tunes for download on their website. I particularly recommend "Gracie's Mine." We'll grab tables for however many people are there at 9:30; but if you want to let me know you will be joining us, send me an email.

Upcoming Events: Free Agent Dinner and Birthday Shindig

@ 12:25 AM | Filed Under: You're Invited (t) | Comments (0) | Cosmos

I've got a couple events coming up. Free Agent Dinner takes place on Thursday, January 13th at Polcari's in Kendall Square. Unfortunately, I'm stuck sharing January 20th (my birthday) with another George Bush inauguration. To ease the pain, I'm conspiring with True Grounds, my favorite cafe (also conveniently located in my Ball Square neighborhood) for a birthday soiree and game night. I'm using Whizspark's online event planning tools. I look forward to their enhancements which will offer more customization for the layout and links. The black background layout comes with red links which looks a little weird with the purple I'm using elsewhere on the page.

A third event at the end of January is in the works with my new studio compadres. More info about that, soon!

Mix Tape Tuesday tomorrow night at the Paradise Lounge

@ 03:07 PM | Filed Under: Concerts (t), Music (t), You're Invited (t) | Comments (0) | Cosmos

The latest monthly installment of Boston Pop Underground's "Mix Tape Tuesday" is tomorrow night at the Paradise Lounge. Mike Viola of The Candy Butchers hosts the cabaret-style anything goes evening featuring the theme "days of the week." He's joined by a handful of musicians including They Might Be Giants' bassist Danny Weinkauf. I missed last month but made it in August and it was spectacular. Best $8 you'll ever spend. The doors open at 8pm and it's 18+. The Lounge is adjacent to the Paradise Rock Club at 969 Commonwealth Avenue on the Green Line's "B" train past BU. See you there?

Join Us! Free Shakespeare On the Common performance of Much Ado About Nothing on Sunday, August 1st @ 7pm

@ 11:17 AM | Filed Under: You're Invited (t) | Comments (8) | Cosmos

Last year I got a group of us together to see the Free Shakespeare on the Common performance of Macbeth. It was a lot of fun, so we're doing it again this year for the final performance of Much Ado About Nothing on Sunday, August 1st at 7pm. We'll meet at 6:30pm near the big water fountain in the Boston Common, a very short walk from the Park Street T Station.

Want to join us? Add a comment here or a trackback ping. Or send me an email. Everyone sits on the grass so bring a blanket and snacks/beverages, too.

“Much Ado About Nothing is one of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies, it’s a full-blooded, passionate world and one that seemed particularly seductive. We are ready to move this year from the belligerence of Macbeth, last summer’s production, to a world where everyone loves everyone,” says CSC Artistic Director Steven Maler.
