Fiveish Years with Dreamhost Web Hosting
@ 01:51 PM | Filed Under: Favorites (t), Web Hosting (t) | Comments (0) | CosmosI noticed the other day that the welcome bar at the top of Dreamhost's web admin panel said I've been a customer since February 2000. Technically I've used their services since 1998 but I switched to two other web hosting companies briefly in 1999. It's interesting to see how much they've grown. Back when I first heard about Dreamhost (and not long after they started up) in mid-1997 they were just a handful of twenty-somethings with a couple servers in college.
They've got an excellent referral/rewards system, too. Anytime you refer someone and they put your account name (mine is susank) in the "Found Us" question, you are paid $97 for the direct referral and $5 if it's a secondary referral. I've got the "Code Monster" plan which they dropped the price on a while ago from $39.95/month to $19.95/month. Each of the plans are a few dollars less if you pay a year or two upfront. Most personal websites would probably be fine with the $9.95/month plan: 800MB of storage, 40GB of monthly bandwidth, 600 email accounts, an excellent email announcement list tool, useful web admin panel, etc.
Dreamhost is running a special deal until the end of today (March 20, 2005) that triples the storage space and monthly bandwidth. My account name is susank if you'd like to note me as your referral. Feel free to email me any questions, too.

Defining Success
@ 10:20 PM | Filed Under: Favorites (t) | Comments (0) | CosmosNick Finck writes:
I want to be in a place where I am surrounded by the best and brightest people I can find. This is what motivates and allows me to succeed within my career, because to me success isn’t measured in profits, stock options, or material wealth, it’s measured by the people you have in your life.

Technorati + Flickr + Del.icio.us + Weblogs = !
@ 06:30 PM | Filed Under: Favorites (t) | Comments (0) | CosmosI dabbled with Technorati's new "tags" functionality that combines the latest weblog entries with photos from flickr and links on Del.icio.us. It seemed like a nifty thing to use along with categories on Exploit Boston!'s event listings and announcements. Each entry's category has a little "t" next to it which opens up a results page at Technorati with the latest tidbits around the web about that category. I'm curious to see how long it takes for something to turn up there. The entries I added recently with the "Central Square" tag haven't turned up just yet.
Here's the code:

Accelerating Change 2004
@ 06:14 PM | Filed Under: Events (t), Favorites (t) | Comments (0) | CosmosGregor attended the Accelerating Change 2004 conference at Stanford this weekend and wrote about several panels extensively on his website. The first entry starts here and there a bunch more including Doug Englebert speaking about large-scale collective IQ, Will Wright (Sims creator) on sculpting possibility space, etcetera.

Audioscrobbler
@ 07:29 PM | Filed Under: Favorites (t), Music (t) | Comments (0) | CosmosI finally set up an account at Audioscrobbler's website. So, if you're wondering what I'm listening to whenever I've got iTunes running, go to my profile page and see for yourself. I showed it to someone and they said it's like big brother for music. Except who doesn't like sharing their music with other people? Sometimes it might be more confession than just sharing. But is there really anything wrong with Nine Inch Nails, Fleetwood Mac and The Muppets played next to each other? Now I just need to figure out how to output the recently listened to tunes on this website similiar to what this person has done.

Multimap.com: Online maps to everywhere
@ 12:04 PM | Filed Under: Favorites (t) | Comments (0) | CosmosI stumbled across multipmap.com when I was looking for an easy way to figure out the ICBM coordinates for my new apartment to update my geourl info. Along with coordinates they also provide maps for spots around the world. The directions seem to be for Great Britain only.

Feedster, an RSS Search Engine
@ 04:57 PM | Filed Under: Favorites (t) | Comments (0) | CosmosFeedster, that little website I helped name last year, has been updated with new newness. They've got a "claim your feed" feature and apparently you need to blog a link for it to work. So, that's what I'm doing.

Favorites of the Moment, Part I
@ 05:21 PM | Filed Under: Favorites (t) | Comments (0) | CosmosThe previous sooz.com design had a page for some of my favorite websites. This category is for whatever websites seem interesting at that particular moment.
Color Scheme: Not sure about what colors to choose for your website or living room walls? This is a nifty helper. Speaking of walls, I think I'm going to paint my room a combo of something close to #FFF280 and #FF9BF.
Boston Common: I don't really know where Adam finds enough time in the day to keep tabs on weblogs around Boston. He's our local, human aggregator for the local Boston weblog world.
Rose Polenzani: Anyone who has known me for more than an hour has probably heard me ramble on about Rose's music. Her albums are good and her live performances are spectacular.
