If you checked out the top search queries on Technorati the past week you probably saw DreamHost in the top five for a few days. It was a little weird to see them above Hurricane Katrina for a day. There was a power outage in Los Angeles that affected their data center building. My websites were down for about half a day. You can read about what happened on their blog.
If you are looking for a web host, I have a special little code that will save you a few bucks at DreamHost. I’ve had my sites hosted there since 1998 (minus about a year elsewhere around 1999) on their “Code Monster” plan. Despite the power outage the other day, I still recommend them if you are looking for an inexpensive shared hosting plan. I don’t have any experience with their dedicated web hosting service.
If you use the code “SOOZHOSTINGDEAL”, you’ll save $50 off of monthly plans (it covers the $49.95 setup fee) or if you’d rather pay for a year or two upfront, you’ll pocket $25 with that discount code since the yearly plans do not have a setup fee. DreamHost has an awesome referral plan which gives me a $97 kickback when someone signs up directly through my referral. This special little deal takes part of that $97 and gives it to you as thanks for signing up through me.
The Code Monster plan I’ve got includes the following goodies:
• 15360 MB Storage (A special sale. it’s usually 7680 MB.)
• 192 GB Transfer ($0.50/GB extra)
• 15 Domains Hosted
• 75 Sub-Domains Hosted
• 3000 Mailboxes
• 375 Shell Users
Standard Features Including:
• One FREE .com/.net/.org/.info domain
• CGI/FrontPage 2002 Extensions
• PHP4, perl, python, C, C++
• Unlimited MySQL Databases

• Unlimited email aliases, auto-responders, announcement lists, discussion lists, media streaming
One-click installs for WordPress, phpBB Forum, osCommerce Store, MediaWiki Wiki, Mambo (Joomla!) CMS and Gallery Image Album.

Check out this web hosting comparison chart to learn more about each of their plans: Crazy Domain Insane, Sweet Dreams, Code Monster and Strictly Business. Each plan includes a free year of domain name registration (for one domain). They charge $14.95/year otherwise. That’s not all that competitive so you can always use that first free year and then move to another domain registrar around the 10th month.
If you sign up with DreamHost, don’t forget to use this special code to save $50 on monthly plans and $25 on yearly plans: SOOZHOSTINGDEAL.
