Workbar hosted a terrarium crafts and drafts event at it’s Union Square coworking space in Somerville on December 19, 2017. Here are the photos I captured as the event photographer. Click on a photo to see a larger image. Looking for a Boston event photographer? Say hello.

photo taken outside Journeyman Restaurant, 9/23/2010, 7:30pm
Journeyman recently opened in Union Square, Somerville after a year-long adventure bringing the restaurant to life. They’re located at 9 Sanborn Court towards the back of the same building that Ronnarong is in across the alley from The Independent. I took a look at the menu information on the website and it mentions that they can accommodate dietary restrictions beyond just omnivores and vegetarians. Looks like my vegan friends should join me there sooner than later!
The big window in the photo was originally boarded up. After removing all the wood they transformed the space into a huge, beautiful window that is now the home to an enormous herb garden that extends from floor to ceiling at the front of the restaurant.
Here’s how they describe themselves:
Journeyman is the project of a handful of food-loving friends who believe that fine dining should be a comfortable, intimate, and delicious experience. We’ve created a small, refined restaurant that serves elegant but unpretentious food and drink with relaxed and respectful service.
Our food comes from local farmers and artisans, often people we know and respect in our personal lives. We grow edible herbs and flowers in our window garden, and are working to become an active member of the Union Square Community by supporting as many local producers as we can, including some neighborhood favorites like Taza Chocolate and Pretty Things beer.
Our beverage program focuses on the strange and wonderful back alleys of production, featuring wines made in traditional ways in unusual areas, beers brewed with special care all over the world, and a wide selection of superb aperitifs and digestifs. We bring in our teas from Upton, and our coffees from Counter Culture, and the selection rotates regularly.
I spotted a big bumble bee on a flower during my walk home. Had to take a photo!
Some other photos I took on the walk home …
You can see more of my flower photos at Sooz Photography.
I took another bunch of photos at Ronnarong on Monday night including some of their popular dishes: Paradise Beef, Spring Rolls, Papaya Salad and a new entree on the menu: Lad Nah (with asian broccoli). See all the photos I’ve taken for Ronnarong in their gallery at Sooz Photography.
Thai Spring Rolls with Tofu
For years I didn’t think I liked Thai food — it generally underwhelmed me and I never sought it out. But then there’s Ronnarong in Somerville’s Union Square — an explosion of tasty awesomeness. I went there for the first time when I moved to Union Square last Fall.
Now that I’m vegan, it’s especially a good spot to go to — most of the dishes can be prepared with tofu.
Here’s a photo of my favorite dish at Ronnarong: green curry with tofu.
I’m doing photography and video work for Ronnarong. See the rest of the photos I’ve taken there (so far) in the photo gallery at Sooz Photography. Follow Ronnarong on Twitter.
Update: Someone commented on Facebook that the dishes at Ronnarong might not be vegan — a lot of Thai food uses fish sauce. I should probably ask. But overall, I’m not worried about being 100% vegan.
About Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band
Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band is an instrumental ensemble with an eclectic repertoire that combines the rich musical history of the circus and the vagabond peoples of Europe with the raw energy of free jazz and the irreverence and fun of today’s vaudeville for a sound that is somehow familiar yet like no other. Accompanying the band is an exuberant confederation of circus performers known as the Madcap Rumpus Society whose members include a rotating cast of aerialists, contortionists, acrobats, dancers, stilt walkers, jugglers and sideshow freaks.
